Black Mental Health Month Seminars

During Black Mental Health Month, IABPsi provides professional seminars that create opportunities for psychologists and mental health professionals to engage with issues that are particularly relevant to the psychological well-being of Black communities. These seminars are intended to promote continued learning, encourage thoughtful discussion, and provide professionals with knowledge and perspectives that can strengthen culturally responsive approaches to mental health care. By creating space for education and dialogue, IABPsi seeks to support professionals in better understanding the experiences and needs of the communities they serve.

Activities & Programs

Mental Health & Wellness Outreach

When opportunities arise, IABPsi partners with nonprofit organizations to provide education and promote mental health and wellness within the communities they serve. These outreach efforts allow the organization to share psychological knowledge beyond professional settings and support organizations working directly with diverse populations. The goal is to make mental health information more accessible, encourage greater awareness of psychological well-being, and equip community organizations with perspectives and resources that can help them better support the people they serve.

Mentorship

IABPsi connects students and early-career professionals with experienced psychologists who share similar research, clinical, and professional interests. With an intentionality to help emerging professionals navigate the early stages of their careers by providing access to guidance, insight, and encouragement from those with established experience in the field. Through these intentional relationships, mentees can gain perspective on professional development, research and practice, career opportunities, and the challenges of building a career in psychology, while mentors have the opportunity to share their knowledge and contribute to the development of the next generation of psychologists.

Indiana Black Expo

IABPsi participates in the Indiana Black Expo Minority Health Expo to bring mental health education and resources directly into the community. The initiative recognizes that promoting mental health requires reaching people beyond traditional clinical and academic settings and creating accessible opportunities for individuals to learn about psychological well-being. Through its participation, IABPsi helps elevate mental health as an important component of overall health while connecting community members with information, professionals, and resources that can support their well-being.

Ethics & Black Psychology Seminar

Each year, IABPsi provides a seminar examining ethics through the lens of Black psychology and the experiences of Black psychologists and the communities they serve. Offered to psychologists locally and throughout Indiana, the seminar creates an opportunity for professionals to critically consider how ethical principles intersect with culture, identity, professional practice, and the unique experiences of Black communities. The initiative encourages ongoing professional development while promoting thoughtful, culturally informed approaches to ethical decision-making within psychology.
